Art Club Hosts Canvas Night

Keep It Between the Lines

It’s been said that creative people “dance to different drummer” and hear their own “beats.” But what if you’re NOT musical ? What if you feel the need to “paint on a different canvas” ? Thanks to the West Geauga Art Club, and its advisor, West Geauga art teacher Mrs. Andi Janke, last December our school held a fundraiser, benefitting an under privileged family in our district, as well as the art club.

There was a “Canvas Night” at our school. For a $25 fee, the Canvas Night package was for adults  to come to paint from 6pm to 8pm. All the canvas and painting materials were included and the art club students were on hand to assist the potential Picasso’s in their efforts.

Local businesses like Avanti Salon and Turney’s donated a ton of prizes that were raffled off by ticket number and refreshments were provided by Mr. Dale Smith’s foods and nutrition class. “Each person [who] walked through the door walked out of the door with a prize. Some even two! It was awesome to see the community come together to help raise money for the less fortunate,” said Mrs Janke.

When asked what her favorite part of the night was, Janke laughed and said, “My favorite part of the night was seeing West Geauga students, Charlie Koach and Hannah Zannetti, dress up as Mr. and Mrs. Claus. It was so funny!”

The community feedback toward the fundraiser seemed overwhelmingly positive. When asked if she plans on holding another one Janke responded with, “I have received a ton of requests to host another Canvas Night. I will do another one in the Spring, so I will keep everyone posted.”
