The 2015-2016 gymnastics season is in full swing (no pun intended) here at West Geauga. The team is led by senior captains Bri Cellini and Kendall Lyman. Many girls are returning from last year’s team and want to improve their scores and gain new skills. The girls are hoping to bring home another CVC championship as a team like they did last year.

Gymnastics, like many sports, requires a lot of dedication. The girls spend most of their winter break at the school in the gym, practicing and coaching.  They host a winter program for younger girls, also.

Countless hours of hard practice, blood, sweat, and tears are put into this sport. The girls are very supportive of each other and always encourage one another to do their best. One of their main goals is to make it past the sectional tournament and qualify to the district and state championships, as a team or as individuals.

The girls began the season on Wednesday, December 9th. The first meet went well and many people can’t wait to see what the girls will accomplish this year.  The season does not come to a close until the beginning of March.

The practices are held in the auxiliary gym 4 days each week, 3 hours per practice.  The program allows girls from roughly 10 other schools to regularly meet at West Geauga to train. This is a great way for the girls to make new friends and have healthy competition. Training with all of the athletes allows them to push each other to their full potential.

Cellini said, “I think this year is going to be a great year because the team is closer than ever and I’m excited to see how far we will go this season.”

At the recent McGhee Invitational sophomore Sam Angie placed on the beam and in the all – around competition. Head coach Mrs. Gina Javorek noted, “Sami has been doing a great job both as a teammate and as an athlete.  She is back this year full – go after dealing with an ACL injury all last season.

We look forward to watching another successful season and we wish the girls the best of luck!
