This season the West Geauga Lady Wolverines basketball team is looking to make a comeback. With only eight wins over the past two years, their ultimate goal is to start winning more games. The girls have been working hard since the end of October, having games, practices, and scrimmages (even on Saturdays) to prepare for this highly anticipated season.

The team is led by senior co-captains Jenna Kijauskas and Hanna Zuzek and junior, Lindsey Stanforth. Regina Ziccardi and Melissa Kuchta round out the seniors on the roster.

The team has maintained a very strong bond throughout the past couple of seasons, and they want to start using that to their advantage. At present, the team has a record of 5 – 9, already an improvement from last season, after a 54 – 31 victory over Berkshire on January 20th.

After their loss to Geneva earlier this season, coach Ms. Cheryl Rye said, “We’ll bounce back. We saw some good things in the Hawken game. We were rushing shots today. The game needs to slow down for us offensively.”

The varsity team is small in numbers this year, with only twelve total girls. But this does not stop them from giving their best and fighting tooth and nail every practice and game.

The team is led by Ms. Rye (a Class of 1986 West G. graduate) and assistant coach Ms. Julie Kless. Both do their best each year to help the girls compete and bring fun and joy to each of the players.

We wish them the best of luck in the rest of the season.
