The West Geauga boys golf team ended its season recently with a record of 6-7. They finished fourth in the league with a 3-3 CVC record. Leading the team this year was Zack Kirchner, Joey Carovac and David Horten.

The expectations for this season were to play competitive golf in the league against the top teams and also to qualify to district as a team. According to head coach Mr. Jay Kletecka, the team motto was to, “…play smart golf, especially when you are trying to recover from bad shots.” Some of their other goals were to avoid three putts and also to avoid big numbers on a hole.

During the summer the players could purchase a Maple Pass at Fowler’s Mill Golf Course for $85 per month and play all summer long. It was crucial for the boys to go to the driving range to work on their swings, also.

All season long the team wanted to beat Chagrin because they were the CVC favorites. Unfortunately, they were not able to achieve that goal of beating Chagrin; however, they did finish fifth at their pre-season tournament and third at the CVC post-season tournament.

Senior Zack Kirchner qualified to districts and was also 2nd team all-CVC. David Horten missed qualifying for districts by one shot, but he did receive honorable mention all-CVC.

The boys golf team’s season did not exactly finish as they had wished. They are, however, optimistic for next season and plan to work during the off-season to improve.
