The countdown is officially over…and we mean REALLY over. The first football game of the 2015 season was just around the corner and West G couldn’t have been more excited. Coach Mr. Lou Cirino and his players had been working all year for that moment. It’s hard to believe the season is now almost done. Even though mandatory practices started on August 3rd, the boys were preparing since the end of last season, working out 4 days per week after school and putting in time at home on their own.

The team had been working since last November to get where they are today, so where will they be at the end of the season? The goal was to go 10-0, but that became impossible after a week one loss the Chardon. How did they want to achieve this goal? When asked, Coach Cirino said, “What we have been doing since last November. Discipline and mental toughness.” Currently in week 9, West Geauga is 7-1. After that hard loss to Chardon, the team has made an incredible come back by winning 7 straight games.

Discipline and mental toughness are some things that this team is not short on. With approximately 250 practices and workouts under their belts for this season, they’ve definitely been working on staying in shape. This isn’t the only thing they’ve been working on, though.

These boys have done a great job so far and would love MORE support. “I love when students come out,” said Logan Jelliffe, offensive left tackle, “It makes the games so much more exciting. They motivate us to perform better.”

The next game is home at 7:00 pm versus Perry tomorrow. In addition to the conference title being on the line, and major post – season computer points, the game is versus an undefeated opponent that is ranked “top 10” in the state in Division IV ! If that wasn’t enough, the game marks the return of former West Geauga head coach, Mr. Matt Rosati. It’s been 8 years since Rosati left West Geauga for “black and red” of the Pirates. Perry has gone 1 – 7 versus West Geauga since Rosati left, including last year’s game where West G won 28 – 21 after 7 Perry turnovers spoiled their effort.

See you all tomorrow at 7 !
