The girls golf team is off to a good start this fall. New coach Mr. Roger Sines was happy to be hired as girls golf coach and was eager to start the season. Leading the team this season is Alyssa Pecharka, a junior, who has been playing since her freshman year. Returning junior Katie Pollack is also excited to start off a new season. Other players include Ashley Armstrong and Jenna Bertolone

The team is off to a solid start with a current record of 2-2, losing to Perry and Independence. Their victories over Orange and Berkshire have been highlights so far.  Coach Sines said, “The ultimate for this year is to shoot better than we did as a team and individually at the CVC tournament. The girls have been playing better so far in match play and we need to carry that into the tournament.”

As a new coach, Mr. Sines set goals for his first season. According to him, the biggest goals for this season are to teach the girls the rules of the game, to help them practice more efficiently, and learn to love the game of golf.  Olivia Connley, a new member of the team, said, “The golf team has been very accepting of me.” The girls did not go into the season without a background.”  Over the summer the team met most Wednesday’s to play a nine-hole round or practice on the driving range. A few of the girls have their own instructors they work with during the summer, also.

“With golf, you can’t live in the past. If you had a bad shot or played a bad hole, you need to move on and go from there. Dwelling on the past doesn’t allow you to focus on what you are about to do,” Coach Sines said.
