Time to ReLAX After the Season

The West Geauga High School lacrosse team ended its season with a record of 8-9 after the final playoff match versus Kenston, losing 7-19.

Despite the losing record, the team is still very proud of this season, and for good reason. After last year’s 2-13 season, the Wolverines have begun to figure out what works for the team.

“Our athletic ability is definitely something that greatly improved after last season,” Coach Kalis said. “Hopefully we can keep building on our strategy on the field as a team and do even better next season.”

Despite the team’s feeling of intimidation before playing against Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy in their first playoff match, the players managed to earn a win, 14-3. However, they were unable to continue the momentum through their next match versus Kenston.

The season served as a solid farewell to the team’s twelve seniors: Max Kucera, Donnie Bastulli, Andrew Todaro, Robert Morl, Ryan Newlon, Steve Kligman, Chaz Glick, Alex Fry, Nick Kalis, Liam Andes, Ryan Flynn, and Dylan Marin.

With the loss of so many players next year, Coach Kalis hopes to build upon both the current and upcoming group of players, preparing them for next year’s challenges and earning an even better record than this year’s performance.

Coach Kalis explained his hopes for the 2015-2016 season. “This season showed us some of our potential. Even though we didn’t have a winning season, I’m still happy with the way the team came together and stuck through it all to get the wins they deserved. There are definitely a few things I plan to implement next season that I learned this year.”
