Girls Tennis Serves Up Successful Season in 2014

After a season of ups and downs, the West Geauga High School girls tennis team has “come to the net” for the last time. After a successful regular season, many of the girls went on to represent West Geauga at the conference tournament.

Finishing their regular season with a record of 9 wins and 9 losses, led by 1st singles player Sydney Hanford (MVP), the girls had a successful season. 2nd singles champ was Drew Heatwole and 3rd singles champ was Deanna Swinerton. As a school, West Geauga placed 2nd behind Aurora at the tournament. Alongside these exciting accomplishments, the girls bonded and made many new friendships and memories. There is no doubt that this season was a memorable one.

“It was the first season in a long time where we had two conference champs (Drew Heatwole and Deanna Swinerton). We also didn’t have any seniors, so it was cool to make friends with people [who] will all be back next year,” said Drew Heatwole, a junior on the team.

For the span of the autumn season, the girls shared laughs and stuck by each other’s sides through many trials and errors, providing for a noteworthy season.

As the season draws to a close, the girls are anxiously anticipating next season. We wish them luck in the future.
