Scholarships are a Roarin’ Success

Chesterland’s Lion’s Club Promotes Higher Education

The Lion’s Club is offering two scholarships, one for college and one for vocational school. They are both worth $500.

The objective of the Lion’s Club is to make a difference both on a local, as well as national, level. The advancement of adolescent/adult education is one of the most important processes society can assist with. As such, the goal of the scholarship is to help students reach the next step of their educational experience, while encouraging them to perform community service.

The requirements for the college scholarship are simple. One must have at least a 2.8 cumulative GPA and maintain that through 12th grade, be a full-time student at West G, and must have participated in at least one year of a Lion’s Club program, either as a player or a cheerleader. The applicant must also have completed some type of community service through the Lion’s Club. Two letters of recommendation, one from a teacher and one from an organization you provided community service to, are also necessary.

The requirements for the vocational scholarship are exactly the same. You don’t have to have a part time job in the field that you are going to school for, either.

The participant must also send a 750 word essay, explaining, “What is community service to you? How will you continue to provide community service through college and with your chosen profession?” It must be typed in 12 point Times New Roman font with a title.

According to Lion’s Club spokesman, Dennis Farmer, Jr., “With education being one of the keystones to a great society, we created two scholarships. We provide many community service projects throughout the township and what better way to provide a service than to offer scholarships to students to assist them with their continuing educations.”

The application for the scholarship can be accessed through a link on the Lion’s Club site in the near future. To contact the Chesterland Lion’s Club, email them at [email protected] or mail requests to Chesterland Lions Club, P.O. Box 311, Chesterland, OH 44026
