Wolverine Football Team Takes the Field in ’14

The much anticipated 2014 West Geauga football season is here. The “Beat Chardon” shirts were made, the plays were practiced and the countdown hit zero. Sadly, West Geauga did not win versus Chardon or Riverside in the first two contests. The team pulled it together on the new turf on September 12th with a score of 21-14 versus Padua and last week’s 34-22 win over Harvey evened the season record at 2 – 2.

Despite the rocky start at 0-2, the team played a great game versus the Padua Bruins. “It was a great night to be a Wolverine fan,” said Lena Dinardo, junior.

The boys of fall have been training year – round for this season and expectations remain high, despite the loss of 25 seniors from last year’s playoff team. “In high school football, you never know what can happen from week – to- week,” said Coach Mr. Lou Cirino, a 2013 football Coach of the Year. “I expect us to improve each week and, by the end of the year, we have a chance to be a pretty good team.”

With Rob Cline, Matt Ickes, Joe Fornaro, Cam Searight, Paul Donato and, now, Carmen Engolia suffering from injuries, the team will have to make up for the loss of these players, which could pose an immediate challenge to the team.

Come out to support the team as they face Perry (and former West Geauga head coach, Matt Rosati) this week on Friday, September 26th, 2014 for homecoming.
