“Passing” up the Competition

Lady Wolverines finish basketball season

“Passing” up the Competition

“The final record of 3-18 is in no way a reflection of the growth both individually and team wise that they showed on and off the court,” said coach Cheryl Rye.  The girls basketball team won their final game versus Orange, 52-25. “The girls continued to show progress and had been playing much more consistently at the end,” said Rye.

With all the cancellations due to weather, the team had 4 games in 8 days. “With only one senior on the team, our younger players have shown signs of real confidence and ability to translate practice situations to on court game experience. It’s been rewarding to watch the development and know it will continue.” Having no returning starters and very limited varsity experience, these ladies progressed and fought through the season.

At the end of the year, several girls received post – season recognition. 1st Team all – CVC honors went to sophomore Jenna Kijauskas and all – CVC  honorable mention went to  Lindsey Stanforth and  Hanna Zuzek. Special Mention All NE Ohio Lakes District went to Kijauskas, also.

“They played together and they never gave up, something as a coaching staff we were extremely proud of,” Coach Rye noted.
