Running across the Country

Running across the Country

Some People run for their lives, while for others, running is their life !

Throughout the summer and before their athletic season even began, the girls cross country team logged more miles than most people have ever run.  While the team is small, having just eleven athletes, they are very talented and hard-working.  They are led by seniors Lilly Faulk, Natalie Poremba, Victoria Sargent, and Tianna Weist

The most improved runner from last year is also Tianna, as she’s done a great job running as the 3rd to 5th girl on the varsity roster.

The team has done well this year with 5th place finishes at University and Kenston.  Head coach Mr. Mike Taurasi said, “The number one goal for the season is to continue to improve week-by-week and place in the top 3 at CVC.  The hope is that all athletes run PR’s this season.”

Senior Natalie Poremba said that cross country has the perfect analogy: “you run like you eat your cake.  When you’re full (or have already run many miles) you have to push through until; you’re completely done with it.  Plus no one wants to eat cake (or run) slowly.”

The boys cross country team has had one of their most successful outings in recent years this season.  They finished the year placing first in the team standings in three meets: Open Door, Hawken, and Andrews Osbourn.  Top runner Jason Rains was the individual champion at Hawken.  Other cross country seniors and varsity runners include Joey Rains, Alex Becker, Jacob Gialamas, Paedyn Gomes, and Dennis Head.

The most improved runner from last year is also Jason, as he’s done a great job as the top boy on the varsity roster.

Head coach Mr. John Boylan said, “The number one goal for the rest of the season is for all athletes to run PR’s, and make cross country an experience they will never, EVER forget.”

Senior Joey Rains said that cross country has “…allowed me to make friends I normally would not have.  It was the single greatest experience in my high school career.”

Sadly, neither team advanced an individual to the higher levels of the post season and the fall campaign is now over !
