The girls golf team, led by senior captain Alyssa Pecharka, began practicing in late summer, also, to prepare for their season, which began on August 10th. The team struggled during their first tournament, but once school started they were practicing daily to strengthen their skills. At their home course, Fowlers Mill, they had the chance to play on the lake course occasionally, which is much more challenging. Their practicing prepared them for their seven regular season matches and the post-season, also.

One challenge the team faced this year was not having enough members. They had to forfeit some matches because they didn’t have the minimum number of players to compete as a team. The girls they had played, and scored as individuals, but the team was not scored.

The girls golf team is still relatively new, as it became a varsity sport at West Geauga last year. Alyssa was the one who started the team. Her hard work and success in creating the team reflects her hard work and success on the course. This year she placed 4th of 48 at the CVC. “This really showed that hard work pays off!” she said.

The team puts in hard work, too. One proud success of the season came from their best score of 199 at Geneva on the Lake. This was the best score they’ve had in their two years. The girls golf team will hopefully continue to grow and improve.

Congratulations to both teams on a strong season and we wish them the best of luck in their future matches.
